Abstract:

Based on established definitions in international academia, this study divides the sense of place into three dimensions:attachment, identity, and dependence. Drawing on a survey of 1054 respondents, this study employs item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis to rigorously evaluate the designed items. Utilizing the validated measurement tool,it investigates the relationship between a sense of place and various forms of community participation behaviors among residents. The results show that residents’ identity with a place significantly promotes various community participation behaviors, while functional dependence stimulates residents’willingness to participate and increases their focus on rights-related actions. However, compared to identity and dependence, place attachment,as an emotional connection and support, has a less clear impact on residents’ community participation behaviors. In fact,it may even have a negative effect on participation behaviors under external pressure.
