Abstract:

Information Technologies(ITs) enhance work efficiency but also introduces significant stress, becoming a key contributor to work fatigue. As digital transformation advances in grassroots governance, grid workers enjoy the conveniences of ITs,while also need to engage in substantial emotional labor to maintain service quality. This makes exploring the impact of ITs pressure on their job burnout academically significant and practically valuable. Surveys and interviews with Shanghai grid workers reveal that ITs stress influences work fatigue via emotional labor. ITs stress not only directly causes job burnout but also indirectly exacerbates it by increasing superficial emotional labor. In contrast, deep emotional labor effectively mitigates burnout. This finding uncovers the dual mediating role of emotional labor, enriching the theoretical framework of emotional labor’s causal relationships and offering practical insights for grassroots governance. Combining emotional management training with technical support can help grid workers cope with challenges in the digital work environment.
