Attaining“You”through Virtuality: A Narrative Study of Chinese Virtual Reality Cinema from the Perspective of Youguan Aesthetics

摘要：

虚拟现实电影的兴起，为中国传统美学的现代转化提供了新的接入口。以“游观”美学为理论支点，从庄子“游”的哲学意涵出发，经由林年同“镜游”理论的影像转化，“游观”美学在虚拟现实电影叙事中得以被激活与重构。VR 电影并不仅是技术奇观的堆叠，其深层叙事逻辑与中国“游观”美学存在内在契合。移步换景的空间建构、具身化的观看方式、身游与神游的辩证统一，均可在“游观”理论中得到阐释。“游观”美学在国产 VR 电影中的呈现研究，能够为我们提供一种具有中国理论主体性的分析框架。

Abstract:

The rise of Virtual Reality (VR) cinema provides a new entry point for the modern transformation of traditional Chinese aesthetics. Anchored in the core of Youguan (Roaming Observation) aesthetics, this paper explores the activation and reconstruction of Youguan aesthetics within VR film narratives. This exploration starts from the philosophical connotation of Zhuangzi’s concept of“you”(free roaming) and proceeds through the cinematic transformation of Lin Niantong’s Jingyou (Camera Roaming) theory. VR cinema is not merely an accumulation of technological spectacles; its deep narrative logic inherently resonates with Chinese Youguan aesthetics. The spatial construction of“shifting scenes with moving steps,”the embodied mode of viewing, and the dialectical unity of physical and spiritual roaming can all be elucidated within the Youguan theory. By using domestic VR films as case studies to investigate the manifestation of Youguan aesthetics, this research aims to provide an analytical framework endowed with Chinese theoretical subjectivity for the study of domestic VR cinema.
